Description
Elusive 1834 Crosslet 4 Classic Half Eagle
1834 $5 Crosslet 4 AU 55 ANACS. The Crosslet 4 is easily the most elusive of all Classic half eagles, being more similar in rarity to the previous two designs from 1813-29 and 1829-34 than the Classic series. The striking details of this solid AU coin are very well executed save for the thin curl to the left of Liberty's ear. Both sides are attractively highlighted in reddish patina and only the presence of wispy hairlines on the reverse proves the least bit distracting.Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 8172, GSID# 8857)
