Description
1834 Classic Five Dollar, Scarce Crosslet 4 Variety
1834 $5 Crosslet 4 XF 40. This variety is one of the unsung rarities in the Classic half eagle series. It seems likely that fewer than half of the 657,460 half eagles produced at the Philadelphia Mint in 1834 were of the Crosslet 4 variety. Although lightly worn overall, this is a pleasing coin. There are no more than the expected number of abrasions for the grade, and bright crimson-copper patina adheres to the devices.Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 8172, GSID# 8857)
Metal: 89.92% Gold, 10.08% Copper
Weight: 8.36 grams
AGW: 0.24169oz
