Very Rare 1834 Crosslet 4 Classic Half Eagle, AU 50
1834 $5 Crosslet 4 AU 50 NGC. The 1834 Crosslet 4 is the key issue in the Classic half eagle series. It is many times rarer than its Plain 4 counterpart, and is in fact, more similar in overall rarity to the the previous two designs that preceded it from 1813-29 and 1829-34 than other issues from the Classic series. Generally not seen any finer than VF, this piece is one of the best preserved examples we have encountered over the past decade. Softly struck, the surfaces are remarkably free from abrasions and the green-gold color of the coin is accented by rose patina that surrounds the devices.Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 8172, GSID# 8857)
