1834 Crosslet 4 Classic Five, XF40
1834 $5 Crosslet 4 XF40 NGC. Breen-6503, McCloskey 5-D, R.4.
Although typically valued about five times the going price of its
Plain 4 counterpart, the 1834 Crosslet 4 variety remains
underappreciated. It is 10 times rarer than the Plain 4 varieties
combined, making the Crosslets among the three rarest issues in the
entire series. Here, smooth green-gold surfaces are the main
attraction with few disturbances despite the ample circulation.
Census: 11 in 40, 56 finer (10/13).
