Description
1834 $5 Plain 4 AU58 NGC. Second Head, Breen-6502, McCloskey 4-C, R.2. 1834 was a transitional year for half eagles, and both Capped and Classic Head type were minted, along with Plain and Crosslet 4 varieties for each. This piece is boldly struck save for minor weakness on the hair by Liberty's temple. Plenty of luster radiates from the orange-gold borders. A charming type coin.Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 9/2008), lot 3612, which realized $1,955.(Registry values: P1)
