Description

Popular 1834 Plain 4 Classic Head Half Eagle, AU58

1834 $5 Plain 4 AU58 NGC. Second Head, Breen-6502, McCloskey 4-C, R.3. 1834 was a transitional year for half eagles, and both Capped and Classic Head type were minted, along with Plain and Crosslet 4 varieties for each. This piece is the most available issue of the year, and is arguably the most common of the Classic Head series. Boldly struck save for minor weakness on the hair by Liberty's temple. Plenty of luster radiates from the fields and enhances the eye appeal. A wonderful type coin.(Registry values: P1)
