1834 $5 Plain 4, HM-3, R.2, AU50 NGC. The date is widely spaced at 3 and 4; likewise, the letters of STATES are spread out on HM-3. This readily available die marriage struck more than 25% of the 1834 surviving population, with over 700 examples extant in all grades. About Uncirculated surfaces display bold definition supported by mint luster that remains throughout the attractive, orange-gold surfaces. The 1834 Plain 4 die marriages outnumber a single Crosslet 4 die pair 8 to 1.
