Description
Exquisite 1834 Plain 4 Classic Head Half Eagle, MS62
1834 $5 Plain 4 MS62 NGC. First Head, Breen-6501, McCloskey 3-B, R.2. A plain 4, with the 34 in the date comparatively distant, identifies the obverse. On the reverse, the eagle has no tongue, and there is no motto above its head. There are a number of varieties of 1834 half eagles, and the 1834 Plain 4 Classic Head is probably the most available. Perhaps the strongest quality of the present piece is its flashy, semiprooflike luster, which gives it tremendous eye appeal. Enticing yellow-gold patina overlies the surfaces and is complemented by powerfully struck details. This exquisitely preserved and attractive piece would make a wonderful representative for a type collection.(Registry values: P1)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# E2KE, PCGS# 8171, GSID# 8856)
