Description
Choice 1834 Plain 4 Classic Head Five
McCloskey 2-A, Only Three Finer at PCGS
1834 $5 Plain 4 MS64 PCGS. CAC. Breen-6502, McCloskey 2-A,
R.1. One of two readily accessible die pairs for the 1834
Classic Head five dollar, the other being the First Head, Large 4,
Breen-6501, McCloskey 3-B variant. The McCloskey 2-A is
distinguished by the triple-punched 4 in the date on the obverse
and the position of the 5 in the denomination half under the arrow
clutched by the tongued eagle. This near-Gem offers swirling and
effusive luster on light yellow-gold surfaces, and only a touch of
striking softness is visible on the highest design elements. Great
all-around visual appeal. PCGS has graded just three finer Plain 4,
Classic Head examples (8/11).(Registry values: P1)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# E2KE, PCGS# 8171, GSID# 8856)
