Description
Choice McCloskey 2-A
1834 Classic Head Five
1834 $5 Plain 4 MS64 PCGS. Second Head, Breen-6502,
McCloskey 2-A, R.2. The first of the new-tenor gold half eagles,
the 1834 Classic Head coins of all stripes are the earliest
representatives of the denomination to survive in quantity to the
present day. This charming Choice representative is among the
finest of those, well-defined overall with only a touch of softness
evident on the central curls. Warm sun-gold surfaces are satiny and
minimally marked. With just three finer examples known to PCGS
(11/08), this would be a great example to add to a high-end date or
type set. From The James Mossman Collection.(Registry values: P1)
