Description

1836 HM-4 Five Dollar, MS63
Lustrous Surfaces, Only Minor Marks

1836 $5 Block 8, HM-4, High R.3, MS63 PCGS. The Tall 1 in the date is repunched at its top and two long dentils sit above the left side of O in OF. A single forelock curl touches the forehead and the eagle has no tongue. Nine 1836 die marriages exist for the 553,147-piece 1836 mintage.

Lustrous medium-gold surfaces are free of any die cracks or other Mint-made anomalies, although the reverse is slightly rotated clockwise in relation to the obverse. The strike is pinpoint sharp on this Select Uncirculated example and brief orange accents exist at the borders. Only minor abrasions are seen on the frosty, attractive surfaces.
