Scarce 1837 Large Date, Small 5 Half Eagle
1837 $5 AU55 NGC. Large Date, Small 5, Breen-6511, McCloskey 1-A, R.4. This very scarce variant can be distinguished by the presence of a Block 8 with a double curl on the forehead of Liberty, as well as, of course the larger date and small 5 in the denomination. This piece is somewhat weakly struck on the left (facing) shield corner. Lustrous green-gold surfaces.(Registry values: P1)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25RZ, PCGS# 8175, GSID# 8866)
