Lovely 1837 McCloskey 1-A Half Eagle, AU58
1837 $5 AU58 NGC. Ex: S.S. New York. Large Date, Small 5, McCloskey 1-A, R.4. The 1837 half eagle is a scarce date when compared to more plentiful Classic Head dates such as 1834 and 1836. Three varieties are known, from a combination of three obverse dies and three reverse dies. This delightful green-gold example has excellent luster and only a trace of wear. The surfaces are excellent for the grade.From The JTR Collection.(Registry values: P1)
