Charming 1837 Small Date Half Eagle
1837 $5 AU58 NGC. Small Date, Breen-6513, McCloskey 3-C, R.4. This die pairing features the Script 8. Despite the high mintage, Mint State coins are rare, and most circulated examples grade only up to AU50 or so. This near-Mint State piece displays charming yellow-gold surfaces that under a loupe reveal only light, grade-consistent abrasions.(Registry values: P1)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25RZ, PCGS# 8175, GSID# 8866)
