1837 $5 MS62 PCGS. Breen-6512, McCloskey 2-B, R.2. McCloskey 2-B is the usually encountered variety of 1837 half eagles. The other two varieties are scarcer, but none are rare. That said, any Mint State 1837 half eagle is an important piece in the series. PCGS has only certified 41 Mint State examples graded MS60 or finer, a total that includes resubmissions. This lovely lemon-yellow example has exceptional eye appeal and minimal marks on each side. A delightful representative for a date collector or variety specialist.
