Description

Elusive AU 58 1837 Five Dollar Gold Piece

1837 $5 AU 58 NGC. Sharply struck and lustrous, this is an important near-Mint representative of this underrated Classic Head half eagle. Although not widely recognized as such, the 1837 is considerably scarcer than the other P-mint issues in this short-lived series with the exception of the 1834 Crosslet 4. With bright, yellow-gold surfaces, this coin possesses eye appeal that should further confirm its desirability among gold collectors.
