Appealing 1838 Five Dollar, McCloskey 1-A

1838 $5 AU55 NGC. Large Arrows, Small 5, Breen-6514, McCloskey 1-A, R.2. In the few years following the redesign and reduced metal content of gold coinage, the U.S. Mint was scrupulous about producing an abundant number of circulation strikes, in order to "jump start" their circulation. Most examples of this issue are about Choice AU or so. This AU55 piece shows pretty yellow-gold, clean surfaces with premium eye appeal.(Registry values: P1)
