Description

1838 Half Eagle, XF45
HM-2, Small Arrowheads

1838 $5 HM-2, R.3, XF45 NGC. A large round berry differs in both shape and size as do the smaller arrowheads to help differentiate the HM-1 and HM-2 varieties. HM-2 ranks among the most sharply struck Classic half eagles and it is traditionally sharper than its HM-1 counterpart. This olive-gold example has enough wear across the Choice XF surfaces to mute some of the original bold strike. We note some thin abrasions above the eagle's head and a short pinscratch on the rim below star 13. Orange accents enliven the eye appeal.
