Select Classic 1838 Half Eagle
1838 $5 MS63 PCGS. Small Arrows, Large 5, Breen-6515, McCloskey 2-B, R.2. A lustrous and beautiful orange-gold example. Well struck, with the major devices splendidly detailed. Only star 6 lacks full centril definition. Abrasions are generally limited to a slender mark above the hair curls and wispy clusters beneath OF and the ER in AMERICA. Impressive quality for the type, which is usually encountered in VF to XF grades. The final date of the Classic half eagle design, although Classic quarter eagles were coined for one additional year.
