Description

High Grade 1838-C Half Eagle

1838-C $5 AU55 NGC. Fairly well struck for this scarce early half eagle, with bold curls on Liberty. The obverse mintmark is located above the date, a short-lived feature which has always been popular with collectors. We note a thin cut near Liberty's mouth and a tiny tick just below the left wing tip on the eagle. The fields are a little hazy, but luster still shows.
