Description
Important XF 1838-C Half Eagle
1838-C $5 XF40 PCGS. Variety 1, without repunching on the 5 in the denomination. This yellow-orange example has subtle glimmers of luster remaining in the fields. Both sides are moderately abraded overall and several scrapes are visible on the portrait, but the overall eye appeal is solid. Striking softness at Liberty's lower curls and the eagle's wingtips is normal for the issue. A great example of this first-year date, the sole Classic Head half eagle from Charlotte. Population: 25 in 40, 33 finer (2/10).From The Lucy Llewellyn Collection of Southern Gold.(Registry values: P5)
