Description
PCGS 1838-C VF 35. Second rarest date of the type and the only Classic half eagle struck in the Charlotte mint. As a result, the '38-C has always been a popular coin with collectors. Very rare above VF. This piece is well detailed and was struck from heavily lapped dies, the lapping having removed part of the eagle on the reverse. There is also a long angling die crack across most of the reverse. Bright semi-prooflike fields and showing several shallow parallel pinscratches in the left obverse field. Trends $1,800 in VF 20, $4,900 in XF 40.
