Description
1838-C Classic Half Eagle, AU 53
1838-C AU 53 PCGS. First year of issue for Charlotte minted half eagles and the only year the Classic design was produced in this mint. These two attributes explain why the '38-C is such a popular collector coin, but what is more difficult to explain is why this issue is so scarce in high grades when the '38-D is far more available.Slight softness of strike is seen over the highpoints, as usual, and the surfaces are peppered with numerous, small abrasions. The most obvious marks are located on the cheek and neck of Liberty, with a planchet flaw in front of the neck, and a rift in the planchet positioned by stars 8-10. Bright green-gold color.
