Description

1838-C Half Eagle, XF 45

1838-C $5 XF 45 NGC. Of the 120-130 known specimens for this issue, perhaps a dozen exist in finer states of preservation than the piece offered here. Current population reports list 18 finer specimens, but these figures do not account for resubmissions. This specimen displays a weak strike, most notably on the eagle's right wing. A large die crack diagonally bisects the reverse of this golden-yellow Charlotte half eagle.
