VF Details 1838-D Half Eagle

1838-D $5 --Obverse Scratched--NCS. VF Details. McCloskey 1-A. Only a single die pair was used to strike the first Dahlonega Mint half eagle issue. Just 20,583 pieces were struck, and only a tiny fraction of that emission has survived. This original olive-gold example has a straight pinscratch in the field near stars 3 to 5, but is otherwise attractive for the VF level.(Registry values: P4)
