Description
1838-D Five Dollar, VF30
One-Year Type Coin
1838-D $5 VF30 NGC. McCloskey 1-A, R.3. The 1838-D is a
popular coin because of its status as a one-year type within the
Classic series. It is also generally not found in high grades, and
when it is, such pieces are invariably pricey. This coin shows
deep, even reddish patina over each side. The high-point definition
is somewhat uneven, most likely because the hair curls were softly
struck when the coin was new. This caused the coin to show less of
the design in that area. Lightly abraded.(Registry values: P4)Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 8178, GSID# 8882)
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
