Description
Awesomely Toned AU 58 1838-D Five Dollar
1838-D AU 58 PCGS. A small number of 1838-D half eagles are known with truly superb coloration (a few that spring to mind include the Arthur Montgomery/Coles coin, and a pair that were auctioned in different 1991 sales by Mid-American). The presently offered specimen must be added to this list. Both sides exhibit breathtaking coppery-orange gold shades that really need to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. The surfaces are nearly perfect and a good deal of luster remains. This is one of our favorite individual coins from the North Georgia Collection and it should realize a very significant premium over a "typical quality" example.Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 8178, GSID# 8882)
