Description
Popular 1838-D Classic Head Half Eagle
1838-D $5 XF 45 NGC. The first half eagle struck at the Dahlonega Mint, the 1838-D is also one of only two branch mint issues in the Classic Head series. Typically encountered at the VF level, this is an uncommonly well defined survivor. The wear is even and confined to the highest points of the devices. The otherwise green-gold coloration yields to pleasing copper highlights about the rims. Both sides are lightly abraded, yet problem-free for the grade. From the Willow Grove Collection.
