Description
1837 Classic Head Five, MS62
Scarce and CAC Endorsed
1837 $5 MS62 PCGS. CAC. Breen-6512, McCloskey 2-B, R.2.
Large Date, Block 8. Most type coin collectors settle for an 1834
Plain 4 or 1836 Classic Head half eagle due to the availability of
those issues in Mint State. The 1837 is scarce this fine, and it is
a rarity in higher grades. The present coin boasts the coveted CAC
endorsement. Frosty original luster illuminates original
yellow-gold surfaces and shows no major abrasions. Star 1 on the
obverse exhibits the only mentionable strike weakness. Population:
12 in 62 (1 in 62+), 17 finer. CAC: 6 in 62, 9 finer (9/18).Ex: Mills Collection (Stack's, 5/1976), lot 380.(Registry values: P1)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25RZ, PCGS# 8175, Greysheet# 8866)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
