    Description

PCGS 1834 Classic MS 65. Small Head. There are two distinctly different design types of the 1834 Classic quarter eagle, the Large Head and Small Head types. The Large Head is considered the scarcer of the two, but the superb condition of preservation of this so-called "common" design type puts it in a class by itself. The coin is amazingly well struck for a Classic quarter eagle with complete plumage on the eagle and good definition on Liberty's hair curls. The fields are bright and semi-prooflike, as usually seen, and there are only the slightest abrasions on either side, none of which are worthy of individual mention. Rich orange-gold color is seen throughout with just a touch of light reddish-coppery patina as well. Population: 5 in 65, only 1 finer (12/94).
