    Description

1834 Classic Head Quarter Eagle, MS61
    An Ideal Type Representative

1834 $2 1/2 MS61 NGC. Breen-6138, Variety 1, R.1. William Kneass' Classic Head design was implemented part way through 1834, replacing John Reich's Capped Bust portrait. The Capped Head coins are challenging to locate in any grade, while the Classic Head representatives (112,234 pieces struck) are far more accessible overall. This mint condition Small Head example features illuminating luster over light yellow-gold, minimally abraded surfaces. The stars show full centers, the hair curls are well-detailed, and the eagle's plumage is crisply rendered.(Registry values: P1)
