Description

1834 Two and a Half, HM-1, MS62
Small Head, Flashy Fields

1834 $2 1/2 MS62 NGC. HM-1, R.2. This example is from the introductory Small Head subtype, found only on HM-1, where the curls on the top of the head differ from its Large Head successor. The design is readily encountered in circulated grades, but Mint State examples are very scarce. The sun-gold surfaces are mildly prooflike and lack consequential marks. The strike is good despite minor blending on the eyebrow and forehead curls.
Ex: ANA Signature (Heritage, 8/2014), lot 3748.
