    1834 Quarter Eagle, MS62 Prooflike
    Pleasing Eye Appeal, Variety 1

1834 $2 1/2 Small Head, Breen-6138, Variety 1, R.1, MS62 Prooflike NGC. A lovely Classic Head type coin, this Mint State 1834 is unusually well-struck on the shield and eagle's talons, and displays crisp peripheral stars. Warm straw-gold surfaces show substantial semiprooflike mirroring in the fields, and a single mark midway between star 3 and Liberty's mouth is the only flaw of note. NGC has awarded a Prooflike designation to only 14 coins, including five in this grade (one in MS62+ Prooflike) and nine finer (4/15).
