Description
1836 Classic Two and a Half
Block 8, Mint State
1836 $2 1/2 Block 8 MS61 NGC. Head of 1837, Breen-6144,
McCloskey-C, R.2. A nicely struck yellow-gold Classic Head quarter
eagle that displays ample luster. A wispy pinscratch appears on the
upper obverse, but the surfaces are otherwise unmarked. Three dates
of Classic Head half eagles (the 1834, 1836, and 1837) come with
both Script and Block 8s, but only the 1836 two and a half attains
separate Guide Book listings.Ex: Sarasota Collection (Heritage, 7/2004), lot 8012.
