    Description

    1836 Quarter Eagle, Radiant MS62
Block 8, Second Head of 1837

1836 $2 1/2 Block 8 MS62 NGC. Breen-6144, Second Head of 1837, Variety 15, R.2. Although the 1836 Block 8 variant is estimated to have a mintage just one-fourth of its Script 8 counterpart, the two varieties are listed in the 2020 Guide Book at the same value, and both types are available to collectors. Uncirculated examples are elusive. This is the Second Head of 1837 design -- scarce as a type -- with smooth and lustrous, greenish-gold surfaces. The eagle shows slight weakness below the wing, although all else is sharp. Census: 21 in 62 (1 in 62+), 16 finer (5/19).(Registry values: P1)
