    1836 Quarter Eagle, MS64
    Exceptional Quality
    Block 8, Variety 15

1836 $2 1/2 Block 8 MS64 PCGS. Breen-6144, Variety 15, R.2. An unusually nice example of a Classic Head date typically encountered in AU. Rich lemon-gold toning is predominant but leaves a blush of ice-blue in the central recesses. Both sides are remarkably clean, even for the MS64 level, with contact limited to trivial ticks on the field above the eagle's neck. The strike is crisp, if not quite full on the forehead curls and eyebrow. More quarter eagles were struck in 1836 than in all other years of the type combined, yet high-grade pieces are decidedly rare. Population: 9 in 64, 4 finer (12/14).
