    Description

1836 Classic Head Quarter Eagle, MS64
Scarcer Block 8, Variety 15 Issue

1836 $2 1/2 Block 8, Second Head of 1837, Breen-6144, Variety 15, R.2. MS64 PCGS. CAC. A substantial mintage of 547,986 Classic Head quarter eagles was accomplished in 1836, with eight die varieties known for the date. The varieties are divided into two main subtypes, five with a Script 8 in the date and three with a Block 8. This coin represents the Second Head of 1837 Variety 15, with a Block 8 date style and a detached berry in the olive branch on the reverse. In general, the Block 8 varieties are much more elusive than their Script 8 counterparts. This coin is a well-detailed Choice example, with a touch of the usual softness on the eagle's leg. The antique-gold surfaces show only minor signs of contact and retain much of their original mint luster. Population: 8 in 64 (1 in 64+), 4 finer. CAC: 2 in 64, 1 finer (6/16).(Registry values: P1)
