    Pleasing Near-Mint 1836 Script 8 Quarter Eagle, Breen-6143

    1836 $2 1/2 Script 8 AU58 PCGS. McCloskey-D, Head of 1835, Breen-6143, R.2. Lovely green-gold and peach toning adorns the satiny surfaces. Typically struck with minor weakness noted on the central highpoints, and a die crack that extends from the upper obverse rim through star 6, and to Liberty's hair just above the forehead. Slightly worn with faint hairlines and a few tiny marks on each side. Karl Stecher, Sr. purchased this piece from the Guttag Bros. of New York during the 1930s. A Guttag Bros. envelope with inscription "V. Fine" included.
