    Description

1836 Classic Head Quarter Eagle, MS64
    Head of 1835, Variety 13

1836 $2 1/2 Script 8, Head of 1835, Breen-6143, Variety 13, R.4, MS64 PCGS. A substantial mintage of 547,986 Classic Head quarter eagles was accomplished in 1836, split between the Script 8 and Block 8 types. There are five die varieties known for the Script 8 type, and three different die marriages for the Block 8. This attractive Choice example represents the Script 8, Head of 1835, Variety 13, with a berry in the cluster of leaves on the olive branch. The design elements are well-detailed, with a touch of the usual softness on the central devices. A prominent die crack travels from the edge near star 6, through the field and hair, down to Liberty's jaw. The lightly marked orange-gold surfaces retain much of their original mint luster intact. Population: 13 in 64 (1 in 64+), 2 finer (11/17).
