    Description

    1837 Quarter Eagle, MS63
    Rare in Mint State

1837 $2 1/2 MS63 PCGS. Breen-6145, Variety 16, R.2. The usual die variety for this lower mintage (45,080 circulation strikes) Philadelphia issue, though two other rare die pairs are known. Numerous examples exist in Extremely Fine and About Uncirculated condition. Mint State specimens are rare and tend to be concentrated in the lower end of the spectrum.

Rich orange-gold color cascades over both sides of this lustrous Select offering. The design features are well-struck except for the usual softness in the hair curl above Liberty's ear. A few scattered minuscule marks preclude the next highest grade. Population: 6 in 63, 4 finer (11/13).(Registry values: P2)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25FX, PCGS# 7695)
