    Near-Mint 1838 Quarter Eagle

1838 $2 1/2 AU58 NGC. The entire mintage of more than 47,000 quarter eagles in 1838 was accomplished from a single die pair, quite a change from the previous year when three die pairs were necessary to coin 45,000 coins. This pleasing example has satiny luster with brilliant light yellow surfaces. Only a few trivial surface marks are evident, as expected for the grade.(Registry values: P1)
