    Description

PCGS 1838 MS 65. Although the 1838 is generally recognized as a better date in the Classic series, few people have seen enough uncirculated specimens to pass judgement on its rarity above AU. Most surviving Uncs. cluster around the MS 60 level and the 1838 is extremely rare in gem condition. This piece shows a strong strike and exceptional luster characteristics with rich reddish color. The only marks of note are a pair of small ones by the eagle's right wing, which we mention for pedigree purposes, not because of their distracting nature. Population: 3 in 65, only 1 finer.
