    Scarce 1838-C Quarter Eagle AU55

    1838-C $2 1/2 AU55 PCGS. The 1838-C has a small mintage of only 7,880 pieces, the lowest production by far of the Classic Head Quarter Eagle series. It is estimated that no more than 80-90 pieces survive, and only a small percentage of the surviving specimens are in AU and better condition. This is a moderately abraded example with bright luster and tinges of reddish patina. Population: 9 in 55, 8 finer (5/02).
