Description
1838-C Classic Quarter Eagle, XF Details
First Year of Issue From the Charlotte Mint
1838-C $2 1/2 -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. XF. Variety
20. First year of issue from the Charlotte Mint and one of only
7,880 coins produced. Doug Winter estimates 150-200 examples have
survived in all grades. This is a pale yellow-gold piece that is
softly struck over the high points of the devices. Numerous small
but individually insignificant abrasions are peppered across the
surfaces, as one would expect from this issue.
Note for clients in the European Union: This lot is considered by the European Union to be “investment gold”. We believe that it meets the criteria established in Article 344(1), point (2) of Council Directive 2006/112/EC and thus should be exempt from import VAT regardless of the selling price. Any questions or concerns about VAT should be addressed to your accountant or local tax authority.
