    Description

Lightly Worn 1838-C Classic Quarter Eagle

1838-C $2 1/2 AU 50 NGC. While the typical 1838-C quarter eagle displays heavily abraded surfaces, this boldly defined survivor is remarkably free of sizeable distractions. The deep, copper-gold coloration exudes much originality and the devices are uncommonly sharp for the issue. Always in demand, this issue is the first quarter eagle produced at the Charlotte Mint. Most survivors of the 7,880 pieces delivered grade either VF or XF, with attractive About Uncirculated representatives numbering fewer than 20 coins.
    From the Willow Grove Collection.
