    1839-C Quarter Eagle, AU58
    Ideal Classic Head Type Coin

1839-C $2 1/2 AU58 NGC. Breen-6150, Winter-2, Variety 22, R.4. The 1839-C is one of the more plentiful Charlotte quarter eagles in the series, with 300 to 400 examples believed extant. Its availability, however, is restricted to circulated grades, as in Mint State the date is equally as rare as the lower-mintage 1838-C. This representative displays sharp motifs with just a trace of friction. Bright, green-gold patina graces both sides, and surface abrasions are minimal. Struck during a late die state, as evidenced by several radial die cracks on each side. Census: 65 in 58 (1 in 58 ), 16 finer (9/14).(Registry values: P5)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25G4, PCGS# 7699)
