    Scarce 1839-C Quarter Eagle

1839-C $2 1/2 PCGS Genuine. Recut 39, Breen-6150, McCloskey-C, Variety-2, R.3. The 39 in the date was originally punched too low and was subsequently corrected. On the reverse, the tip of the branch extends to the right edge of the upright of the D in the denomination. This variety is thought to have had an original mintage of just 4,860 pieces and is considered to be the rarest of the three known varieties for the year. The present coin exhibits modest wear, with a slightly unnatural bright yellow appearance. This is a late die state specimen, as evidenced by the die cracks on the reverse.(Registry values: P5, N5)
