    Description

    1839-C Quarter Eagle, VF25
    Original 'Crusty Gold' Surfaces

    1839-C $2 1/2 VF25 PCGS. Breen-6150, Winter-2, Variety 22, R.4.
This Obverse Mintmark Charlotte quarter eagle is certified in an old-style PCGS green-label holder, and the piece has a nice, original "crusty gold" appearance that collectors will love. The 3 in the date is recut on this variety, and die cracks connect star 2 with the front of the profile and star 8 with the rear. Orange-gold surfaces show scattered marks and ticks, with some buildup in the device crevices, a coin that has obviously never been cleaned or fooled with -- just the way discriminating collectors of Southern gold like them.(Registry values: P5)
