    Rare AU53 1839-D Two and a Half

    1839-D $2 1/2 AU53 NGC. Winter 1-A, McCloskey-A, R.3. The 1839-D is the only Classic quarter eagle Dahlonega issue. Two die varieties are known, distinguished by the size and placement of the branch stem. This yellow-gold representative has a good strike and much remaining luster. A curved hair-thin mark above the eagle is barely worthy of mention. Census: 18 in 53, 49 finer (9/08).(Registry values: P4)
