1839-D $2 1/2 --Improperly Cleaned--NGC. XF Details. Variety 1-A, McCloskey-A, R.3. Eagerly sought out by collectors as the only D-mint Classic quarter eagle. The surfaces are bright from cleaning, but have taken on a slight overlay of reddish patina that helps give the piece a more natural appearance. The centers are weakly struck on both sides, and the only mark of note connects the bottom of ES in STATES.
