Description
1839-D $2 1/2 --Improperly Cleaned--NGC. XF Details. Variety 1-A, McCloskey-A, R.3. Eagerly sought out by collectors as the only D-mint Classic quarter eagle. The surfaces are bright from cleaning, but have taken on a slight overlay of reddish patina that helps give the piece a more natural appearance. The centers are weakly struck on both sides, and the only mark of note connects the bottom of ES in STATES.From The Lucy Llewellyn Collection of Southern Gold.(Registry values: P4)
